Essential Oils for Travel

These six Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils (Young Living or other top quality 100% pure essential oils) are excellent general purpose oils to carry with you while travelling:

Peppermint Essential Oil
Lavender Essential Oil
Thieves® Essential Oil Blend  (from Young Living)
Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Lemon Essential Oil
Purification® Essential Oil Blend (from Young Living)

There other essential oils that are also excellent but these six oils are so useful in so many ways. Don't leave home without them! Carry the larger bottles in your luggage and tiny travel-sized bottles in your pocket or purse.

Do not use
fragrance oils, perfume oils, or any other synthetic oils as substitutes for essential oils – synthetics do not have the therapeutic properties of essential oils and contain chemical and artificial fillers.

Air Purification - While traveling, inhale Purification Essential Oil Blend, Eucalyptus or Peppermint Essential Oil during flights to protect you from pathogens found in the re-circulated air. Good to inhale while traveling, while in airports or crowded places to boost your immune system and fight against germs. Put several drops of Purification on a cotton ball and place in the air vents in the home, office, hotel room or other enclosed area. Other oils that are great are - Lemon, Eucalyptus, Peppermint or Thieves®. These oils are antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral. Helps clear sinus or lung congestion. Use a drop of Thieves or the new convenient Thieves spray to disinfect your hands or to sanitize surfaces (don’t use on wood furniture).

Anxiety, Stress, Insominia - Lavender - Often called the “Swiss Army Knife” of the essential oil world because it has so many uses. Soothing and relaxing - inhale directly from the bottle or apply 1-2 drops to temples, wrists, neck, feet.

Blisters - Rub a drop of Lemon, Lavender or Purification blend oils on a blister to cleanse and disinfect. Then cover with a clean bandage or moleskin for blisters.

Bruises - Helichrysum or Lavender - apply directly to skin.

Bug bites, cuts, scrapes – Essential oils of Purification, Lemongrass, Lavender – apply directly to bite or cut as needed

Cool Off - add few drops of one of these oils: Eucalyptus, Lemon, Orange, Purification, Peppermint Oil or use one of your favorite blends like Sacred Mountain, Peace & Calming, Joy, Grounding, etc..to a small spray bottle, fill with pure filtered water. Keep the bottle in the refrigerator or cooler. Mist your neck, body & feet as desired. Remember - if you will be out in sunlight or tanning beds, don't use Lemon essential oil or the citrus oils (Tangerine, Orange, Lime) which can cause photosensitivity to skin exposed to sunlight..

Colds, Respiratory Congestion - Thieves® or RC Blend® or Eucalyptus Essential Oils (Dives, Globulus, Polybractea, Radiata). There are many varieties of Eucalyptus and the properties and scent varies from species to species. These oils have high antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal properties and work as a great decongestant. You can inhale directly from the bottle to clear sinuses and help bronchitis and respiratory infections. You can mix a few drops of RC or Eucalyptus Essential Oils in jojoba or a carrier oil and apply to the chest and throat for coughs and to improve breathing and lung function. (Do not put Thieves® directly on the skin as it is a 'hot' oil.)

Congestion, Sinus - Thieves® – from Young Living. Powerful blend that is stimulating & very antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral. Great to inhale while traveling, while in airports or crowded places. Helps clear sinus or lung congestion. Also Peppermint, RC or Eucalyptus works well.

DiGize contains the oils of various spices (ginger, fennel, peppermint, tarragon) traditionally used in Eastern cultures after eating to settle the stomach and promote good digestion.

Gums, Teeth - Thieves® – from Young Living. Powerful cinnamon & clove blend that is very antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral. Cinnamon and other oils were used for disinfection and pain relief in the early years of dentistry. You can use 1 drop of Thieves in the mouth for infection of the gums or brushing your teeth. Don’t use Thieves Oil directly on the skin. Do not use on small children. Peppermint Essential Oil can also be used for teeth and gums to freshen, sanitize and kill germs as well as freshen breath.

Hand Sanitizer - The old-fashioned adage of washing hands to stay healthy and help stop the spread of germs really is true. In addition to hand washing with soap and warm water, you can use various essential oils as wonderful hand sanitizers. (Note about commercial hand sanitizers - they contain a hight percentage of alcohol and chemicals to kill germs. The alcolol can be unsafe for children who lick their hands and fingers after using.) You can use Lavender, Lemon, Eucalyptus or even Peppermint Essential Oils to sanitize your hands. Be sure not to touch your eyes or contact lenses after handling oils. Also try the Thieves® Spray or Thieves® waterless hand sanitizer for a more natural alternative (from Young Living). These are excellent for carrying in pocket or purse. Use during air flights, in airports, bus stations, and wherever there are crowds and you can't wash your hands as often as you'd like.
